Luciana Bigazzi non è solo una straordinaria pianista. Da oltre dieci anni compone, arrangia, produce, dirige la collana internazionale di spartiti Christmas Songs Collection (…).
Diplomata in pianoforte e in clavicembalo (…) ha perfezionato il suo stile con maestri (…), diventando concertista internazionale.
In veste di produttore sviluppa e coordina vari progetti dei chitarristi Maurizio Colonna e Frank Gambale (…) …e il più recente Bon Voyage, presentato con successo anche in India (…).
Oggi torna sulle scene con l’album Passages – Works for Piano (…). Il cd propone 14 composizioni che attraversano momenti di vita differenti e raccontano spazi del mondo. (…) Il collage alterna piccoli ritratti interiori e sentiti omaggi culturali espressi attraverso una scrittura sapiente e dinamica, che mette in luce le doti di interprete, oltre che di autrice, di Bigazzi.

Il cd alterna momenti di vivida contemplazione (“Acaya”) a dinamici fraseggi strumentali (“Pasadena Freeway”), che regalano tono ed equilibrio all’entertainment: qul è lo scopo di questa ecletticità espressiva?

“Grazie per le sue considerazioni! Gli umori non sono mai statici: ogni individuo ha la necessità di creare dei propri equilibri. Così anche la musica ha bisogno di equilibri propri”.

Ma l’album ha un significato univoco o va inteso come un collage che racconta storie, emozioni e vibrazioni differenti?

“Il titolo si presta a più interpretazioni: “passaggi” di vita, di ritmo, di colore, di forme e così via…(…)”.

Il progetto include omaggi al Salento, al romanziere francese Maxence Fermine e all’architettura di Antonio Gaudì…

“Bisogna essere riconoscenti a tutto ciò che ci aiuta a crescere: non si deve dimenticare.

Nel quotidiano come vive la riflessiva spiritualità del pianoforte?
L.B.
La spiritualità va ben al di là di uno strumento musicale. E’ pur vero che il pianoforte rappresenta per me un mondo di affetti “sonori” da cui ricevo energia positiva”.

Ma la musica per pianoforte…

“Il mondo della musica, per me, è affascinante perché non presuppone graduatorie tra gli strumenti, le persone e i generi. Ogni spazio timbrico ed emozionale ha il suo pubblico e ogni persona è libera di ascoltare e di suonare la musica che desidera”.

Non trova che per un neofita la pur basilare educazione accademica sia troppo lontana dall’espressività e dal linguaggio sonoro del nuovo millennio?
L.B.
“Penso che, fra mille anni, il concetto stesso di musica sarà diverso da quello attuale. Un percorso musicale accademico dovrebbe sempre avere ben salde le radici nel passato e su di esse costruire le nuove realtà, tracciando così altre radici per il futuro. (…) Si sente forte l’esigenza di un rinnovamento generale”.

giudizio artistico: OTTIMO
Quattordici brani originali di buona fattura (…).
Si tratta di un album per solo pianoforte, a parte tre brani in cui la Bigazzi è accompagnata da due eccellenti percussionisti: Ivan Ciccarelli (Hang Drum, Glockenspiel, Spring Drum) e Monica Smith (Cristal Bowls). La scaletta si snoda attraverso atmosfere e sonorità in continuo divenire, evidenziando una profonda ricerca musicale, sospesa fra tradizione e sperimentazione. La tradizione è evocata dal brano Acaya dedicato alla splendida terra del Salento, mentre gli altri omaggi musicali vanno a Maxence Fermine con il brano Neige, e ad Antoni Gaudì con Parc Guell.
Le composizioni della Bigazzi oscillano fra il jazz moderno e la musica contemporanea, con una notevole forza meditativa. Ogni singolo brano è una storia a sé, un piccolo affresco musicale sofferto, una confessione intima fatta con il cuore aperto, che induce alla riflessione e all’ascolto attento.

Giudizio tecnico: OTTIMO-ECCEZIONALE
Ci troviamo al cospetto di un’ottima registrazione di pianoforte (e di percussioni in tre brani), realizzata senza indulgere nei soliti preziosismi audiophili, ma ricca di spunti e sfumature che faranno felici gli amanti della vera qualità del suono. Nessuna concessione al dettaglio iper radiografante, alle dinamiche esasperate, al sound-stage “creativo”, ma soltanto una bella incisione di pianoforte, fluida, piacevole e appassionante.
Il sound è caldo e avvolgente al punto giusto, il bilanciamento è puntuale, l’ambiente è ragionevole e tutto sembra contribuire a dare una veste sonora adeguata alle composizioni di Luciana Bigazzi, rispettandone i toni intimi e la sua volontà di colloquiare direttamente con l’ascoltatore.

LUCIANA BIGAZZI – The piano is female
Luciana Bigazzi is not only an extraordinary pianist. For more than ten years, she has been composing, arranging and producing, and directing the international collection of scores Christmas Songs Collection (…).
She has a diploma in piano and harpsichord (…) and has perfected her style with great teachers (…), becoming an international concert pianist.
In her capacity as a producer, she develops and coordinates various projects of guitarists Maurizio Colonna and Frank Gambale (…) … and the recent Bon Voyage, which has even been successfully presented in India (…).
Today she is back in the limelight with her album Passages – Works for Piano (…). The CD proposes 14 compositions that stem from different moments of life, reflecting different spaces in the world. (…) The collage alternates small interior portraits and heartfelt cultural tributes, expressed in educated, dynamic writing, which highlights Ms Bigazzi’s skills as a performer as well as a composer.

The CD alternates moments of vivid contemplation (“Acaya”) and dynamic instrumental melodies (“Pasadena Freeway”), which give tone and balance to the entertainment: what is the purpose of this expressive versatility?

“Thank you for your comments! Humours are never static: each individual needs to create his own balance. And music also needs its own balance.”

But does the album have a single message, or should it be seen as a collage that communicates different stories, emotions and vibrations?

“The title can be interpreted in various ways: “passages” of life, of rhythm, of colour, of forms, and so on … (…).”

In your daily life, how do you approach the reflective spirituality of the piano?
L.B.
“Spirituality goes well beyond a musical instrument. Yet it is true that, for me, the piano represents a world of “resonant” emotion, from which I receive positive energy.”

“For me, the world of music is fascinating because it does not imply any hierarchy between instruments, people or genres. Every timbre and emotional space has its own public and each person is free to listen to and to play the music he wants.”

Don’t you think that for a newcomer, even the most basic academic education is too far removed from the expressive force and sound language of the new millennium?
L.B.
“I think that in a thousand years’ time the very concept of music will be different from what it is today. An academic musical development should always have its roots firmly in the past, as a foundation for new realities, tracing new roots for the future. (…) There is a strong need for a widespread renewal.”

Artistic judgement: EXCELLENT
Fourteen well constructed original pieces (…).
This is an album for solo piano, apart from three pieces in which Ms Bigazzi is accompanied by two excellent percussionists: Ivan Ciccarelli (Hang Drum, Glockenspiel, Spring Drum) and Monica Smith (Crystal Bowls). The programme offers constantly evolving atmospheres and sounds, highlighting her profound musical research, halfway between the traditional and the experimental. Tradition is evoked in the piece Acaya, dedicated to the beautiful Salento region, and there are other musical tributes to Maxence Fermine in Neige, and to Antoni Gaudì in Parc Guell.
Bigazzi’s compositions fluctuate between modern jazz and contemporary music, with a strong meditative imprint. Each piece has a story to tell, a small heartfelt musical fresco, an intimate confession made with an open heart, inviting us to meditate and to listen attentively.

Technical judgement: EXCELLENT-EXCEPTIONAL
This is an excellent recording of piano (and percussion for three pieces), made without indulging in the usual audio affectations, but with plenty of inspiration and nuances that will appeal to lovers of real sound quality. No concession has been made to hyper radiographic detail, exasperated dynamics or “creative” sound-stage, it is simply a beautiful piano recording, fluid, enjoyable and exciting.
The sound achieves the right degree of warmth and involvement, the balance is precise, the environment is reasonable and everything comes together to produce a sound effect that is suited to Luciana Bigazzi’s compositions, respecting their intimate tones and her desire to dialogue directly with the listener.
